Puma Pushes Urban Cycling Again

The Biomega bicycle that Puma began re-branding and selling may be getting another marketing push in NYC. (Here is a review in NY Magazine from a couple years back.)

PUMA bicycle

I’ve seen posters announcing a touring, road, bmx and cruiser versions of the bicycle on 14th Street. I think the bicycle, while expensive at $1600, is really interesting. The idea that the cable in the bicycle can be used as a lock, and if the cable is clipped the bike stops working — is brilliant. I’m curious to know if it really deters theft.

On the other hand, 35 pounds seems really heavy for an urban bicycle. I was living in a 5 story walk up when this bike came out in 2004, and its weight made me dismiss it immediately.
